Dance in Schools

It's been an exciting start to 2018 for SMB Dance, along with our regular evening classes in Knutsford and Alderley Edge we have been working in primary schools in Cheshire and South Manchester.

Lauren has launched morning Ballet and Tap classes at Mobberley C of E Primary School for Key Stages 1 and 2. The children are enjoying learning new steps, developing their skills and learning dance routines. Our Mobberley dancers are also working towards taking their first dance examination medal test in May.

Stacey and Amy have been working with Key Stage 1 children at Victoria Park Infant School, Stretford.

On Tuesdays Stacey has been running a lunchtime Ballet and Street Dance Club for Year 1 and 2 children. Both lunchtime clubs are working towards performances/competitions in Greater Manchester throughout the year. Stacey says 'It’s great to see so many girls and boys getting involved with the lunchtime dance clubs building confidence and discovering new talents’. Tuesday afternoons both sets of Year 2 children have been learning a Street Dance style dance routine to the popular chart music. This has proved to be a great exercise program and keeps all children involved and focussed. New dance moves are taught each week building up to the final full routine on the last week of term.

On Friday afternoons both sets of Year 1 children have been learning a seventies inspired dance to the updated version of ‘September' which features in the hit movie 'Trolls'. The children have learnt a combination of seventies dance moves with street dance developing Key skills including: spacial awareness, timing and coordination. Amy says ‘It has been wonderful working with the Year 1 children at Victoria Park Primary School. Over a number of weeks I have seen the children’s confidence grow, they have worked hard practicing and performing the movements and are now happy to create their own movements for parts of the routine- amazing’.

Stacey has been hosting an after school dance club at Bexton Primary School on Tuesday’s after school. This term Stacey has delivered a Cheerleading club for KS1 children. Our after school cheerleaders enjoy learning dance technique and routines which they perform for parents/guardians on the last week of term.
